Okay, I don't really have any Scottish roots, but that doesn't mean I can't rock a tartan now and then. No to the kilt, but yes to the tartans.
They seem to be EVERYWHERE this year, after creeping up the last 3 years.
I picked up these babies this weekend at my local trusty J Crew establishment. (My contact there said lots of new fall stuff by Tues of this coming week.)

Probably a dumb question...but whats the difference btw tartan and plaid?
They both look the same to me :-/
I really like the blue/off white shirt :-)
Great call on what you picked up.
I'm loving the plaid. Picked up a couple last year from J.Crew. I ordered the Youngtown plaid flannel number; it should arrive tomorrow.

Thanks Miss Mas! Not a stupid ques at all. Just one that I can't answer! Maybe tartan just sounds nicer.
Jcg: post some pix of thay Youngstown flannel when u get it. I've been eyeing that one too!
missmasala,
In America, there really isn't any difference between tartan and plaid. I think tartan probably conjures up visions of certain types of plaid (black watch, for example). Like a family crest. But in Scotland, tartan is a pattern and a plaid is the actual garment/fabric.
Thanks Tastymoog!
hey JB, sorry for taking so long to get the photo of the shirt to you. The flannel is a nice weight and the plaid is a larger scale than the usual ones. I noticed they have a few new patterns on-line, but this is still my favorite.
